Gemma is featured in the photo above on me! I have to say, I’m a little jealous of whoever ends up winning this giveaway because I am in love with this necklace. It’s absolutely gorgeous and has been crafted so well. Anyhoo, you might recognize her jewelry from a show on Bravo, NYC Prep, where Jesse, one of the leads is rockin her stuff throughout the season. Lauren has also been sweet enough to grace us with an interview about her jewelry line, trends and getting started in the fashion industry which you can read below.

SWEET FUZZ INTERVIEW WITH LAUREN CUTRONA OF TWISTED AND BEAUTIFUL
How did you get into designing jewelry?
I got into jewelry design because I wanted what I could not find… in my price point at least! I have always enjoyed making things for myself, and now have the pleasure of accessorizing others as well.
Your designs are absolutely amazing, what inspires you?
Some is just coming from within. Mostly I find inspiration in my environment and the rhythm that is my life. I live in down town NYC where there are NO rules for fashion. Street style here is sometimes unexpected but never disappointing.
When you’re designing, do you have a muse or is there a certain kind of girl that you design for?
Every woman has a little bad girl inside of her. I design for mine. I have always enjoyed bold pieces, whether clothing or accessories because they make a statement without having to say a word.
What kind of impact has being in New York had on your line, Twisted and Beautiful?
New York is a city where I am free to be me. I have always been a risk taker, and living here makes it so liberating. Almost everything goes ![]()
How have you gotten through the ups and the downs of creating your own line and what advice do you have for someone starting out in the fashion industry?
It is only fair to say that I still do have ups and downs. It is just a part of the game. I think the key isn’t trying to avoid the challenges but rather to embrace them. You have to learn to have a thick skin, and stay true to your desires. Oh and don’t think about what everyone else is doing, there is enough love in the industry for you and them, you just need to go out and get yours!
Jessie from NYC Prep is obviously a huge fan of your work. How did you get involved with her and Operation Smile?
Jessie is like a little sister to me. She has always been a huge supporter of Twisted and Beautiful and any charity she does, I would support in a second!
We are giving away Gemma here on Sweet Fuzz, the gorgeous necklace you designed seen on Jessie on NYC Prep. Describe the perfect outfit you would pair Gemma with.
Well let’s see, I’m really a long tank maybe with a blazer/ cardigan (in cooler weather) and skinny jeans girl. I like simple lines for my clothing and letting the jewelry do the work. Maybe add a pair of hot boots and you’re out the door.
Fashion to me is about lifestyle as much as it is about expressing yourself. Which influences your fashion choices more and why?
I think my style is really about knowing and feeling out what looks good on me. I am not all too concerned with the trend of the moment, because I generally mix and match to find my own unique flavor. Some is splurge… some is second hand chic. That’s just me.
Fall, my favorite time of the year is coming up! What are your favorite Fall trends for 2009?
Love love love the over the knee boot, you can’t help but feel sexy in them. I also love the super structured black jacket/blazer that several designers are showing. It is my perfect chance to revive one of my favorite pieces of vintage. Lastly I obviously LOVE the chain, although I guess you could say I am a bit biased.
What’s in store for Twisted and Beautiful in the next year?
This is going to be a big year for Twisted and Beautiful. I will be experimenting with new chains and textiles. I love the design process so be on the look out for some new fabulousness!
Last but not least what is it about jewelry, that makes us girls go so gaga over it?
Whether it is a statement piece or something more delicate, we put it on in the morning because of how good it makes us feel. A great piece of jewelry will make me run back to the apartment even after being more than half way to the subway… You just feel naked without it!
A special thanks to Lauren who was a delight to work with and for being so generous!
I think that I would pair Gemma up with a denim skirt, moccasin boots (in light brown), a light brown boyfriend shirt with chain belt and the twisted and beautiful necklace. I truly believe that Gemma would be rockin in that outfit. Twisted and Beautiful has some awesome designs, and winning for my birthday would be a real bonus, since the giveaway ends the day before!!!!! Lauren Cutrona has outdone herself.
Oooh this necklace is so cool!! I would wear it with this black knitted tank dress that I have because this would give it kind of a tough/cool look. Then I would pair it with my black patent lace-up heels…ooh it would be so cute!!

I’m really feeling the juxtaposition of girly and tough right now, so I would probably pair that necklace with a fitted leather jacket, a girly dress in a nice bright color or pattern (maybe a medium b/w houndstooth?), some black lace tights, and some badass booties.
That necklace is SO GORGEOUS – whoever wins it is one lucky chica!

I’d pair the “Gemma” necklace with my distressed boyfriend jeans, my open-toe platforms by Dolce Vita, and a “girlier” T-preferably something sheer and a little sexy(kind of “Twisted & Beautiful”? lol)by Kain Label. If I needed a jacket, I’d throw on the “James” blazer by Elizabeth and James. So cool…
I friended you on Facebook!
I would probably wear it with this fleece top and a pair of dark-wash skinny jeans…

I’d pair the necklace with a scoop neck asymmetrical Splendid tunic; Ella Moss black leggings; and my favorite Frye engineer short boots. The boots and the fabulous Gemma would anchor the outfit, and the wardrobe would be subtle enough to showcase those pieces. LOVE this necklace — and women-owned businesses!

I would wear it with my black v-neck, bell sleeves sweater, dark denim pencil skirt and flat black leather boots!
Oh wow, that necklace is gorgeous. I would pair it with my black Liza Rietz scooped cowl knit gown (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25632864), as the draping of both would compliment each other perfectly. And I never like to be 100% girly.

white ribbed boyfriend tank, skinny black jeans, cropped motorcycle jacket (black), leopard print round toe pumps, a matte red lip and some attitude.
I’m pretty sure I will need to go buy some new girly tops to contrast with this necklace, but with what I have now I’d wear Gemma with a large boyfriend v-neck tee, black leggings, black boots, and a cropped jean jacket.
I’d pair that gorgeous necklace with a black tank, skinny jeans, my new kenzie tweed kacket and my grey frye OTK boots. <3
I'll be daydreaming about this necklace for months!

I work in public relations, so making a statement really counts. This necklace simply stands out. I’d pair this with your atypical LBD. Conservative on the front – the perfect canvas for a statement necklace, but daring from behind. It’s a back-less Diane Von Furstenburg dress that’s really fitted and well-tailored. A pair of black leather booties and simple studs would tie up this look for the perfect PR pitch.
This beautiful necklace would help to spice up any otherwise boring outfit! I would pair it with a dark tank and this sheer long sleeve wrap top and some dark jeans and heeled ankle boots!

I have a new pair of black skinny jeans and a long sleeved white tshirt that is just begging for a dramatic necklace to draw the eye.
great prize
I’d pair the necklace with a simple all black ensemble. A black turtle neck, black pencil skirt, black opaque tights, and kick ass black boots with tough metal hardware. Throw in a tough looking leather belt or silver colored metal chain and we’re set.
