Michael Jackson Passes On

Some more sad news, as I’m sure you know, Michael Jackson died of cardiac arrest this afternoon. I’ve loved his music since I was kid dancing around to Thriller and Beat It in the living room. He is and will always be the king of pop. His music inspired so many people and he will always be one of my faves. Though he has been known more for his strange life in the last 15 years, you can’t deny what an influence in has been in the music world. Rest in peace Michael…

Remembering Farrah

I was sad to hear today that Farrah Fawcett lost her battle with cancer this morning.  Farrah is absolutely one of the most influential fashion icons in American history and her signature style from Charlie’s Angels has come back time and time again since the 70s.  Even though I wasn’t alive to see her in her heyday, I always remembered her being a huge star, but most importantly, she always seemed like a sweet caring person.  Cancer is such a devastating disease and hopefully Farrah is in a better place.  Sweet Fuzz sends our best wishes out to Farrah’s family.

Girl Fight: The Real Housewives of New York City

Real Housewives of New York, american style, bravo channel tv, bravo shows, bravo television, bravo tv schedule, bravo tv show, bravo tv shows, frankel, kelly killoren bensimon, www bravo tv

I’m totally addicted to The Real Housewives series, especially the New York City season. It’s not something I’m really proud of, but I can’t help it. Aside from it being totally entertaining, in a way it makes me feel better about my own life. Here are women that have everything material wise, but all their friendships seem so shallow and deceptive. I mean, I’m pretty sure that the only reason these women hang out with each other is because they have to for the show. Which brings me to the top cat fight in the history of the show, Kelly vs Bethenny…

If you have cable, I’m sure you’ve watched this show. So my opinion about the whole Kelly vs Bethenny episode is that both women were at fault. In the last episode Bethenny acted very jealous and rude to Kelly. She claimed Kelly was flirting with her boyfriend and that she’s celebrity obsessed. Kelly invited her to an art show and Bethenny was just very curt and not nice. Then they both went to a charity meeting where Kelly asked for her name not to be put on the invitation and Bethenny said she was acting like Madonna.

Then in the next episode Kelly calls Bethenny for a sit down to talk about why she was acting mean. Watching the show, you totally think Kelly is going to be nice about the whole thing and that they’re just going to talk out their problems. Nope. Kelly sits down and the first thing that comes out of her mouth is how they’re not friends and that she doesn’t like Bethenny, blah, blah, blah. Kelly totally had the ball in her court and she blew it! I guess she was just over it, who knows.

I mean this is basically like The Hills for women over 40. I guess things just don’t change. There’s still jealousy and shit talking when we get older. Us girls are so funny. We are so quick to make up our mind about other girls whether we like them or not. Why can’t girls just be friends with each other instead of competing?

Since I moved down to San Diego almost two years ago, it’s been very hard to meet girlfriends. When I first moved down I lived in house with 4 other people. They were all nice, but one of their friend’s girlfriend decided off the bat that she didn’t like me. She claims I said her boyfriend was cute or something so didn’t even try to get to know me. What’s funny is that I don’t actually remember saying that and her boyfriend would try to flirt with ME. Be mad at him, not me! Long story short, I got excluded from a party that everyone else at the house was invited to and she actually had the nerve to push me, spilling my drink all over me at a Halloween party for no reason whatsoever. The thing is I was really nice to her and basically was trying to make friends. If she were smart, she would have tried to get to know me too and try to be my friend. You know that saying, keep your friends close and your enemies closer. She’s lucky I’m not the type of girl to get pissed off and get back at her.

Since I’ve met my boyfriend about a year and half ago, I’ve just gotten so used to hanging around guys. When guys get mad, they get over it and move on. When girls get mad, we hold on to these hurt feelings. We gossip about our friends to other friends. I’m guilty of it too, but I’m so out of the loop that sometimes I don’t even know how to relate to girlfriends anymore.

But I really miss having girlfriends around to talk to, go shopping, have coffee, etc… I used to have a lot of girlfriends up in LA and I would love to have that down here. Us girls need each other, so why do we fight? I think a lot of times with girls we go by first impressions and judge by that. But what if someone is shy or having a bad day? Maybe if we really try to get to know each other we’d be surprised by how much we actually have in common. Sure we’re not always going to get along with everyone. But we should at least try to be nice in the beginning. As much as the Real Housewives is entertaining, it’s also a very good lesson on how not to act toward your friends.

Props To Khloe Kardashian

I gotta give props to Khloe Kardashian for doing the recent Peta shoot for their “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur Campaign.” I just watched how difficult it was for her to actually do the nude shoot on Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Heck, I’d be scared too, but she stuck with it for the sake of the cause which I think is awesome…

I love fashion and it’s often tricky business stay to stay true to what you believe and support certain designers. I may show pieces from certain lines here on Sweet Fuzz that may also have some fur pieces in their line. If there is fur in a certain outfit, no matter if I love everything else about the outfit, I try not to put it on this site. I don’t agree with wearing fur and I wish that whole industry didn’t exist. If you want to wear something furry then faux fur is for sure the way to go. It’s so not worth wearing fur by taking an animals life. I mean, it’s not like we’re living in the wilderness and that’s our only source of clothing.

khloe kardashian peta ad, khloe kardashian, keeping up with the kardashians, abused animals, animal cruelty, animals cruelty, anti fur, cat cruelty, cruelty to animals, dog cruelty, help animals, horse cruelty, people for the ethical treatment of animals, pet abuse, pet cruelty, peta, pink faux fur, rescue animals, save animals<br />

I just want my readers to know that I may put up style guides of celebrities that do wear fur, but I do not put pictures of them wearing fur up because that’s not something I would wear myself. Some of you may say that I shouldn’t promote any celeb that wears fur or designer for that sake. Here’s where I’m coming from; my style guides are strictly for inspiration. When I show designer’s lines, that’s for inspiration too. Let’s face it, most of use can’t afford the clothes that Zac Posen or Givenchy make. It’s more about taking certain ideas from here or there and creating your own style. For instance, I’ve been wanting to do a style guide on Lindsey Lohan, but I hesitate because of the Peta incident that happened last year in which she was wearing fur. But the girl has great style and I would love to show all her other outfits that don’t have fur.

So look, you can’t change people. I can’t tell someone not to wear fur, it’s their choice even if I don’t agree with it. But I can give you all sorts of other style ideas that don’t contain fur that maybe you would choose to wear over fur. Khloe Kardashian did admit that she used to wear fur, but after she was exposed to videos showing the cruelty that goes on in the industry, she immediately decided to stop wearing it and do the campaign. Hopefully, other celebs and designers will take a hint from Khloe. Fashion is meant to be fun, not cruel.

Introducing “Sour Fuzz”

Sour Fuzz I’ve finally gotten my graphic design site, Sour Fuzz, up and running. Sweet and Sour Fuzz have been an idea of mine for a very long time, and I’m just so happy that there both coming to fruition. Each site represents a different side of me. Sweet Fuzz is definitely my girly side where I focus on nutrition, beauty, and lifestyle. It’s really a great release for me to be able to work on Sweet Fuzz everyday, I love it. Sour Fuzz is a completely different side of me…

Sour Fuzz is totally geared toward graphic design. It is my dream job to have my own freelance design company so here it is. I’ve been doing freelance for the last year or so, but now, I have a site up where I can show off all my work. When you go there, you will find that a lot of my designs are on the darker side. It’s my more rocker girl side. I grew up listening to grunge and alternative music back in the 90s, and music really inspires me. I am also heavily influenced by the action sports industry and my dream is to someday do skate deck designs and cd covers for a living.

Sour Fuzz is a full fledged graphic design company here to bring to life any kind of design that someone wants, so it’s not necessarily limited to my style. I’ve also partnered with Best Batch Media Solutions which is a full fledged web development company. They’re friends of mine, they’re awesome, and together, we can do pretty much anything! I’m just super stoked all the way around. And now that’s the site is up, I can just focus on doing more designs which is what I truly love to do. So take a look, and if you and someone you know needs some killer designs, I’m open for business!

Renewable Energy Equals Better Future For The World

We all know it and feel it. Times feel pretty dismal right now. More and more people are losing their jobs. People can’t afford to pay their mortgage and bills. The effects of global warming haunt us. There are people starving in many places around the world and wars are being fought based on fears and lies. Man, it can be very depressing. But can change happen? Can it happen quick? Actually, it can.

We all learned about the Great Depression in school. It started with the stock market crash of 1929 here in the U.S. and soon the recession turned into a depression that spread around the world. Similar to times now, people, banks, and companies lost a lot of money in the stock market, thus people started to lose their jobs and their homes. To make a long story short, here are the Depression statistics according to BBC World News:

Effects of the Great Depression in the United States:

* 13 million people became unemployed.
* Industrial production fell by nearly 45% between the years 1929 and 1932.
* Home-building dropped by 80% between the years 1929 and 1932.
* From the years 1929 to 1932, about 5,000 banks went out of business.

While we are not in a depression of that caliber, if we and our government don’t make some big changes soon, we could be headed in that direction.

First let’s look at what led to this current recession.

  • Many Americans bought homes they couldn’t afford with subprime and adjustable mortgage rates.  Result; once the interest rates went up, so did the mortgage payment.  Many couldn’t afford their new mortgage payment which resulted in foreclosures.
  • 911 happens which causes a recession in the early 2000s and fear in the American public of another tragic terrorist attack happening.
  • With fear instilled in the American public, we go to war with Iraq to eliminate their so called Weapons of Mass Destruction (which were never found) which leads to the collapse and the occupation of Iraq by us.
  • Instability in the Middle East leads to higher oil prices.
  • Many companies start manufacturing in China and other countries where labor is cheaper than the U.S. leading to many people losing their jobs.
  • Credit before the current recession was given out easily thus leading to overspending and high balances that many can’t pay off, let alone afford to the minimum payment.
  • High oil prices led to high food prices.
  • The American Government has not been held accountable for anything that has happened in the past eight years.

According to the The International Labour Organization, a prediction of 20 million jobs will be lost here in the U.S. by the end of 2009 for a total of over 200 million jobs lost world wide.  That’s more people unemployed than during the Great Depression.

Okay, so now that we have all that grim stuff out of the way, let’s focus on how we can make this situation better.  First of all, Obama, I voted for you and I really hope you can do what you said you were going to do.

First off we need to get our troops out of Iraq.  An estimated total cost of the war to the U.S. economy is $3 trillion.  $3 trillion dollars!  With tax payers paying an estimated $1.9 trillion.  And for what?  What has America gotten out of this?  Well, we’ve gotten a very scary recession out of it.  Not to mention all the lives lost, both American and Iraqi.  You know, I never really wanted to talk about political stuff on this blog except for environmental causes and animal cruelty.  But this just can’t be ingnored.  That money could have been used for something positive.

My roommate gave me a flier he had gotten from a environmental activist outside of Trader Joes yesterday.  It’s for the website EnvironmentCalifornia.org.  They are a non profit that is pressuring the government for 100% renewable electricity nationwide by 2030.

According to Environment California:

  • “California is already home to wind farms that can power a city the size of San Francisco-nearly 1 million people-and avoid 1 million tons of global warming pollution.
  • “Clean energy legislation in California created 1,400 jobs in 2007 alone and prevented up to four polluting power plants from being built.”
  • “From plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles that can go up to 150 miles per gallon, to solar roof tiles that can capture the sun’s energy, researchers are finding ways to do more with less and to tap into unlimited energy sources.”

People, if we and the government really put an effort into this, this could be one of the answers to many of the problems we have today.  Not only is it better for the environment, but it will release us from our dependency on oil.  So how do we implement something like this?  Basically our government has got to step up.  Yes, we are in a huge deficit right now, but what exactly are we spending our money on?  The Iraq War is something that comes to mind.  If we took the money we spend on the war to building renewable electricity plants, not only would it be creating jobs, but also saving the lives of our troops.

War is not the answer anymore (not that I think it ever was).  War only creates more terrorists and more hate.  Let’s focus on making America a better place, which will in turn make the world a better place.  Think about it.  Change has got to start locally and then it will spread.  If things are bad and getting worse here, how the heck are we going to help anyone else?  And that goes for wherever you are.  I know I have readers in many places around the world.  Spread the word about clean energy and try to implement it where you are.

Dependency on oil has caused so many problems that affect people in so many ways.  If you want to help, spread the word!  Go to environmentcalifornia.org where you can donate money to the cause or spread the message to friends and family.  If you know of any other organizations that you think can create a better future please leave a comment to let us know who they are.
