I thought the days of big hair were on the outs right now, but it seems it may be making a comeback. Hair of late seems to have taken on a no nonsense air dried approach, sometimes almost looking dirty. A couldn’t be bothered look, that’s what I’m trying to say. Well, I’ve tried to do that myself and I can’t stand it! My hair just plain looks bad when I don’t do anything to it. Straight on top and curly underneath, ughhh! Anyway, I’ve always liked big hair like Cindy Crawford in the 80s. And I always tend to curl my hair so I think I’m going to jump on the big hair bandwagon. Watch out America!
By the way, so over my bangs. I knew I would be. I think they’re adorable on others, but for me, I think it makes me look twelve and I’m turning 30 next week, hmmm….don’t really know if that’s really the look I’m going for. Big hair it is!

I’ve been thinking about getting bangs for awhile now and then I came across these amazing photos of Kate Moss for Paris Vogue. Hmmm, maybe it’s a sign because I friggin’ love her hair. Very hippie chic.

So unless you’ve been living under a rock, most of you have seen many celebs rocking little itty bitty braids. It’s a trend that’s perfect for the carefree looks of Spring and Summer…

Lauren Conrad of The Hills fame has been the queen of braids. Seems like every picture I see of her has one of her signature braids.

Rachel Bilson looks adorable here with a simple face framing braid.
Love the little braids with long wavy hair, very hippy.
Do an updo with braids to stay cool on a hot day.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I cut it because my ends were getting really ragged…but I was pretty bummed about my hair being shorter. I’ve pretty much always have had long hair and that’s what I feel comfortable in so I’m on a mission to get it really long again. So, if you’re looking to grow your hair long and healthy, here are some tips…
Some people have no problem growing their hair fast. My friend used to have really long hair, then got it cut into a bob, but it grows so fast she has to get it cut all the time. Not me…my hair is very fine and doesn’t grow fast. And my ends get thinned over time so I really have to take good care of it. That hasn’t been the case as of lately. I’ve been so busy, I haven’t really taken the time to do some key things like this.
1. Deep conditioning my hair once a week. I have a great deep conditioner by Enjoy which makes very high end and expensive products. I should be using that once a week, no more than that though, because too much protein can cause your hair to break. There is another way to deep condition your hair and that’s with coconut oil. It’s supposed to be the best thing for your hair. This has been a tradition in India for a long time and most Indian women I’ve seen have long beautiful hair. I think with coconut oil it’s okay to condition more than once a week. You’re supposed to massage into your hair to get the blood flowing which is supposed to stimulate the hair follicles.
2.Trim your hair every 6 weeks. I never do this. The last time i got my hair cut was last summer. This is one of my downfalls. Because my hair grows so slow, I don’t like to get it trimmed very often because then it seems like it never gets longer. But at the same time I really need to do this because my ends get really ratty…ughh, I guess I need to schedule an appt.
3.Eating healthy is key to having healthy hair. This is a no brainer. Your hair needs nutrients in order to grow, so make sure to eat a well balanced diet with plenty of veggies. It is also important to get an adequate amount of protein, but since most Americans eat too much protein, I wouldn’t worry about eating enough of it. It’s more important to eat healthy protein like avocado, hummus, beans, brown rice and beans together and soy products. For more info on what are good proteins, click here. Also eliminate junk food and cut down on alcohol because those things are like poison for your body. Your body can’t function or stay healthy if either of those things are a major part of your diet.
4.So now you have your healthy diet down, you still need supplements. Fact is that most veggies that we buy today lack their full amount of nutrients because of pesticides. Unless you eat everything organic, you will probably need supplements. There are plenty of supplements out there fully geared toward growing stronger healthier hair. I don’t know which one is the best, but if you go to your local vitamin store, I’m sure they could help you out. Also prenatel vitamins are also supposed to be good for growing healthier hair. My problem is I buy the vitamins, but I’m not very good at consistently taking them. Remember to always check with your doctor before you start taking any new supplements.
5.Be easy on your hair. Try not to blow dry your hair every time you wash it. Be gentle when you’re brushing it. Heat can really make hair weak and combining that with rough brushing is a disaster for your hair.

I just found out that Kate Hudson has teamed with her hair stylist David Babaii to bring you David Babaii for WildAid, a natural hair care line. The line donates 10% of all its profits to WildAid, a non profit organization whose mission is to end illegal wildlife trade and protect endangered species.
I haven’t tried their products yet, but they sound amazing. Imagine washing your hair with luscious cupuacu butter from the Amazon and blue algae extract. Or conditioning it with nutrient rich volcanic ash from the South Pacific and Polynesian White Ginger.
David Babaii for WildAid is free from sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals and is completely vegetarian and cruelty free. The line includes: Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner, Amplifying Shampoo and Conditioner, Volcanic Ash Sculpting Clay, Amplifying Whipped Mousse, Hair Polish, Bohemian Beach Spray, Extra Hold and Light Styling Spray, and Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier. The line also includes a hair dryer and flat iron.
David Babaii has actually been Kate Hudson’s hairstylist for years and also does the hair of Angelina Jolie, Uma Thurman, and Scarlett Johansson. David has done hair for over 100 major magazine covers and is known for his free flowing naturaly wavy style. He has been named “king of curl” by Vogue.
WildAid is based out of San Francisco with additional locations in London, Canada, China, India and Galapagos. They work with over 80 celebrities to inform the general public about endangered species and how we can help save their lives. Their ACAP program works for governments to decrease public buying of endangered wildlife products. They also have my other programs and 100% of donations are applied toward these programs. Check out wildaid.org for more info.
You can purchase David Babaii for WildAid at your local CVS and Target stores. I personally can’t wait to try them!

I use it as a deep conditioner before I wash my hair. I’ll slather it on my hair, wrap my head in a towel, use a blow dryer to heat it and let it sit for about 20 minutes. After I wash it, my hair feels super soft. Just a word of advice, make sure that you wash every inch of your head because your hair will be oily if don’t wash it all the way out.
Coconut oil is also a great protector for your hair against the sun and sea water. Ocean water can really dry your hair out, so it might be a good idea to be put it on before you get in the water. It has also been proven to get rid of dandruff and can promote hair growth when massaged into our hair on a regular basis.
Here’s my advice: To use as a deep conditioner, massage pre warmed coconut oil onto your hair and let it sit for 20 minutes or warm it after you put it on with the blow dryer. Do this on a weekly basis to keep your hair strong and soft. You can also use it as a light pre conditioner before you wash your hair, but just use a couple drops. I would not recommend using this a conditioner after you wash your hair because it will leave it oily.
Also, only buy virgin unrefined coconut oil so it contains all it’s natural ingredients and organic if you can. Below are some products I recommend. I like the Organix line because it uses organic ingredients, no sulfates and does not test on animals. I like the Nutiva brand of coconut oil because it’s organic and unrefined.
