I was introduced to The Mars Volta by my boyfriend who is a musician. He was so stoked to get their newest album last year (he has all the previous) and let me tell you, the first time hearing them, it’s a lot coming at you all at once. But they’re awesome. I think you really have to love music, especially loud rock music to really appreciate The Mars Volta.
The Mars Volta was named the best progressive rock band by Rolling Stone in 2008. I’m most familiar with their last album, The Bedlam in Goliath. They mix all sorts of different genres of music with rock including jazz fusion, latin, and funk. They started in 2001 in El Paso, TX and have released four albums; De-Loused in the Comatoriam (Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers played bass on this album), Frances the Mute, Amputechture, and The Bedlam in Goliath. You might also recognize them from their song L’Via L’Viaquez which is on Guitar Hero World Tour.
Ooo, I love checking out music I’ve never heard before! Thanks!
